For over 2 years, Hakim Coggins has been involved with the Newport emergency Waring Center committee. It all began with a simple desire to address a gap in services within the community. A lack of meal and warming center services available in the area prompted him to delve deeper into the scheduling of warming centers and meals. Through perseverance and determination, access to a building was secured on Saturdays, and a hot, nutritious breakfast was provided to those in need.

But it didn't stop there. The potential to offer more than just a meal was quickly realized, and activities aimed at providing temporary respite from the struggles individuals faced were introduced. Support groups were established as part of the program, offering lasting benefits beyond a single meal.

The value of holistic support in transitioning out of difficult circumstances was recognized, and a structure encompassing case management and life coaching resources was developed. Empowering individuals to take meaningful steps toward positive change became the ultimate goal.

With support from the community and funding, a real difference can be made in the lives of those facing housing, financial, education, and mental health instability. The vision is to create a comprehensive program that not only provides meals and temporary respite but also offers long-term support and resources to help individuals achieve lasting stability and success. The house is built now let's just furnish it and turn it into our home. "HAKIM COGGINS"
