I started this program for two reasons. one; I sincerely care, and two; I have been there and through it many times myself!
I work for two organizations. One is called the Strategic Prevention Partnership. My position is the Community Engagement Specialist. I've worked for the Prevention family for over three years and my primary focus is working with the youth of Newport to steer them on the path of a substance-free lifestyle. Within the three years I've been active in the Heart Club social club created by Ellen Pinnock of Fab Newport where I try to provide mentorship. I've also created a "Freshfit" program where I partnered with Planet Fitness to launch the program that provides access to daily showers and physical exercise specifically for the unhoused but it's also available to the whole community as a well-being tool through exercising. I've also partnered with Newport Public Schools to help them with the funding and installation of vape detectors. I hold certifications in Catch My Breath, A diverse curriculum program that encourages kids to stay away from tobacco. I also hold a certificate as a CADCA graduate and NAMI facilitator. I've held Saint Patrick's Day wellness events and been active in numerous collaborations with Cutie Curls and the Newport community police officers for their youth summer camps. I've also formed the "Ride the Wave" program where I've partnered with Uber for free ride shares that prevents impaired driving during the St Patrick's Day festivities. In addition, I also hold a job in a program called Pass where I facilitate a daily curriculum. Pass is an umbrella division of Turning Around Ministries where we meet people where they are at in life. We try to provide direction and assistance in overcoming barriers and obstacles people are facing in life. We do mock interviews and resumes. We also help with credit history repair and criminal record expungement. We invite every organizational resource in for these individuals' undivided attention on a 1on1 basis as our core curriculum. It's many other aspects of the program but you would have to join it to truly understand its meaning, purpose, and value.
As the founder and director of NEWPORT BRIDGE, I am exploring new horizons and addressing barriers and breaking negative cycles. I would like to redefine the stigma of value as a marginalized bipoc man in Newport RI and encourage more equity and equal opertunities for diversity within leadership roles.
